Well, That Sucked
A few observations from Draft Day 2007, an event that oddly received more play on the Irish message boards than our very own Spring Game last week.
-Brady Quinn and all other draftees should avoid heading to New York. There is nothing for these players to gain in being there. They have no control over their futures. The best case scenario is for them to be drafted where they were projected. But what happens when a player begins to slip? We saw it last year with Leinhart and this year with Quinn. It’s painful. Plus, the trip to New York only provides more of an opportunity for embarrassing photos.
It would have be much better for everyone if Quinn was on the golf course today. Future draft picks should take a page from Joe Thomas’ book and go fishing.
-It should not be lost that Brady is one heck of a football player. Any one that questions that only needs to check out the Notre Dame record books.
-Cleveland just picked up thousands of new fans from coast-to-coast. All of a sudden a team I never thought of much will be getting plenty of my attention.
-The Dolphins are an absolute joke. Check out this hilarious video of their dumb coach trying to convince Dolphin fans that Ted Ginn Jr was a smart pick. The ‘Phins basically took a gimpy kick returner over a potential franchise quarterback. Yeah, that’s a good pick.
-Minnesota. Ah…Minnesota. What a bunch of jackasses! Not for taking Adrian Peterson, he’s gonna be a solid back. But when ESPN showed the flashback of the 2003 draft when Minnesota couldn’t get their pick in on time, I was reminded of how dumb that entire organization is.
-Now we need the Bears to draft Rhema and Darius on Day 2.

What do you guys think of Darius choosing to go to camp with the Bears? The Bears spent their 3rd round pick on Garrett Wolfe. While I think DW is a better talent than Wolfe, you know the Bears will keep Wolfe around and give him first shot at backing up Cedric.
I’ve always been a DW fan, but I have to question his choice. If I am a free agent and can talk to every team in the league, do I go to a team that just drafted a guy that is ‘in my mold’? Competition is a good thing, but so is evaluating your options wisely.
Thoughts????

The Giants made a mistake not drafting Darius. They lost Tiki and have Brandon Jacobs & Reuben Droughns as their RBs. They could have used Darius as a 3rd down back, a role I think he will excel at in the NFL given the chance. He’s durable, can catch the ball out of the backfield, holds onto the football and knows how to pass protect.

I think the Bears are the only team to play for. Da Bears!

As much as I hate the Giants, I agree with Thunder. DW would have fit very well in the Giants backfield.
My dream was that the Cowboys took Quinn at 22 and DW in the later rounds. I had visions of a full-house backfield of Quinn, Julius, Darius, and Fasano at H-back.
Damn you, Cowboys, well…..at least Wade Phillips isn’t holding press conferences explaining that Ted Ginn is a good punt returner.

Interesting topic – I’m a huge Bears and DWalk fan. However I also went to NIU for undergrad and have been following Wolfe.
I’m not sure what Da Bears did here. Wolfe is a talent but not an every down back and someone they are hoping to get touches returning the ball – and I think we may have a guy good at that already…. oh yeah that Hester guy did take a few back last year. I thought Darius made more sense in Rd5 for Chicago and they could have tabbed a more athletic OL in Rd 3; Free from NIU was available then. Hindsight.
Chicago is only keeping three backs and as Hammer points out that leaves DWalk out because they drafted Wolfe. Bad decision to leave early and to go to Chicago for Darius.
The real question is who is Darius getting his advice from? Rosenhaus?

If finding an NFL RB gig doesn’t work out, Darius could always land a role in the “Bad Idea Jeans” commercials.

Looks like DWalk’s deal with Chicago fell through – still has a chance to land in Dallas Hammer….

I just realized I jinxed Rhema and Darius with this post.
Sorry about that, Dudes.

It’s not often I find a really good football article online, most are the same ole’ thing just rehashed.
Thanks for posting something I could really sit down and read.
