2007 NCAA Football Schedule

I got a ton of mileage using this schedule last year. Each conference is on a different tab so you can immediatly go to the Big Ten tab and see the cream puffs they have all lined up in the first week. Notre Dame is featured in 6 “Games of the week.” Download it here:

I’m sure this was already mentioned in the shout box, but on SportCenter the other night Corso suggested we would win fewer than 6 games in 2007 (Herbstreet, to be fair, suggested over 6). They both admitted we have one of the toughest schedule in college football this year. Frankly, I am cautiously optimistic that we will pull together a respectable year and prepare for a stellar 2008 and 2009. While we clearly have a young, untested team, we also benefit from the fact these guys are too green to know they are supposed to lose. I do have a few questions for those of you have spent a lot more time researching this than I have:

    1. Why are people convinced that Georgia Tech is a better team this year then last, after losing the most talented athlete in the country? Though my recollection is a bit hazy (that was, after all, the same night as the Fantasy Draft at Ditka’s), I seem to remember the only thing impressive about GT was Calvin Johnson. 1 for the Irish.
    2. Why is the Big-10 still considered a strong conference? Other than Wisconsin, this conference absolutely sucks. It is never easy to play in Happy Valley or Ann Arbor, but why should this underdog team be intimidated? Drew Stanton is gone and don’t see why we can’t beat Purdue. Is it possible we could surprise people and go 4-for-4 in the Big Ten this year? I’m saying 2-for-4 here, worst case.
    3. On the flip side, the Pac-10 looks pretty damn good. 0-for-2 here.
    4. Boston College – a toss-up, but we should win for pride’s stake. 1 more.
    5. Navy, Air Force – always tough, but shouldn’t be a loss (especially at home). Plus 2.
    6. Duke, Stanford: 2-for-2

So, by my math, this looks like it should a 7 to 9 win season. Impossible? Anyone remember the 1993 season when we almost won the National Championship behind an unproven quarterback named Kevin McDougle? Don’t know about you guys, but I like being an underdog for once…

fivestar – a few reasons why GaTech is considered as good or better than last year.
One, they return pretty much their entire defense, which may have been the best we faced last year. Wheeler dominated us and he’s back.
Two, losing Reggie Ball is addition by subtraction – he’s arguably the worst 4 year QB starter in NCAA history. In their bowl game, this year’s QB (T.Bennett) threw for over 300 and 3 TDs and looked pretty good, so the team is excited.
Three, Tashard Choice was 9th in the nation in rushing last year and he’s back. He didn’t start strong but finished the season rushing for over 100 yards in 9 of his last 10 games.

More than anything, that game will be decided by how well our new QB plays against Tenuda’s defense. We can win, and with our next two on the road in Happy Valley and Ann Arbor, we could definitely use the confidence from a win.

I’m confident you’ll win more than 6 games, although the shedule does look like one of the thoughest I’ve seen…
