University of Florida: Not a Football Factory

Rex Grossman(language warning), University of Florida graduate, recently spoke with the Chicago Sun-Times regarding his rigorous college course load:

Grossman changed majors to travel and tourism, then switched again to leisure-services management.

So, travel and tourism was too demanding?

Leisure-services management? Are you serious? We looked it up on the Florida website and, sure enough, it is a major. It sounds tough. You need to maintain a 2.0 GPA AND you have to finish 15 hours of an “Internship in Leisure Services.” Sources close to the program inform us students must spend 15 hours a week participating in the following activities:

  • Tanning
  • Surfing
  • Shuffle Board
  • Bocce
  • Watching Dukes of Hazard
  • Sipping 40s
  • Belching
  • Bass Fishing
  • Cat Juggling

It gets better:

By his final semester of college, Grossman had taken a unique approach to academic life.

”My classes just got closer and closer to the Florida locker room,” said Grossman, who took four classes because they were in the building closest to the practice field. ”It made sense. All four of them were easy enough for me to get a B without much work.”

How easy?

”I remember taking a class on stress and anxiety management, and for one period — an hourlong class — you had to bring in a pillow and take a nap,” Grossman said.

The University of Florida is a reputable institution.
