Locking Down the Backyard

The IRT has recently jumped on the Texas recruiting bandwagon. Texas is setting the standard for locking up commits close to home early and keeping them locked in until National Signing Day.

Has Charlie Weis taken a page out of Mack Brown’s book? It looked like it today as the Irish received verbal commitments from two Indiana natives. Irish Eyes broke the stories on the latest ND commitments: WR John Goodman and OL Braxston Cave.

Congratulations on Weis and his staff. Getting quality players close to home will help build the base of this year’s recruiting class. And the beautiful thing with these two is that they aren’t gonna pull any surprises before NSD.

By the way, Texas is up to 15 commitments at the time of this post.

Also of Note: John Goodman is 6′ 4″ 190 pounds with a 4.5 40 and is from Indiana. Sound familiar?

Goodman had a Michigan offer, but he’s white. Two years ago the controversy surrounding the Robby Parris recruitment and Michigan reached a boiling point. Robby mentioned that Michigan and Carr didn’t play/like/recruit white receivers. I wonder if someone changed his mind. Maybe a certain player from a certain team with the name that starts with an “S” ends in an “A” and in the middle there’s a “Amardzij.”
